Expressions of interest are invited for the role of University Academic Champion for Women in Entrepreneurship. This is a new role which will be the strategic academic lead on supporting and increasing diversity in entrepreneurship (specifically for students and early career researchers). It represents an outstanding opportunity for a member of academic staff to play an influential and highly-visible role developing and implementing strategy, and action to enhance the entrepreneurship environment at Oxford. The role will provide the right candidate with experience of academic leadership at institutional level and the chance to make a difference to future provision and support for entrepreneurship.

The University Academic Champion for Women in Entrepreneurship will work with key senior colleagues across the University (as well as OUI and OSI), and in close consultation with the IDEA (Increasing Diversity in Enterprising Activities) Advisory and Implementation Groups, the Enterprising Oxford (EO) Entrepreneurship Group, and Innovation Forum to:

  • provide academic leadership for the discussion, and potential development and implementation of a Women in Entrepreneurship Strategy as part of the clear entrepreneurship objectives set out in the Strategic Plan and KE Strategy;
  • advocate at a senior level to help inspire, develop and support women interested in or already involved in entrepreneurship in the University;
  • advise on and advocate for the IDEA programme at a senior level, encouraging discussion and feedback on topics such as inclusion, incentivisation of entrepreneurial activities; and
  • support the development of the IDEA initiatives across the University, and oversee development of annual reporting (including metrics and targets) of University and University-related entrepreneurial activities via a Senior Advisory Group.

The role will be supported by staff based in Research Services and will involve collaboration with the IDEA Women Implementation Group, and all areas in the collegiate University involved in supporting entrepreneurship.

The appointed candidate will be expected to dedicate approximately 2 days per month to the role. There is the possibility of personal allowance which will be discussed with the department of the preferred candidate. Candidates should establish that they have the support in principle from their Head of Department, and agreement for allowing an appropriate time allocation to the role, before applying.

The appointment would last for 2 years in the first instance, with possibility of renewal.

To be considered for this position, please send a letter (approximately 2 pages) setting out the reasons for your interest in this role; your experience of entrepreneurship to date; and why you feel you would be suitable for this appointment, by 26 March 2021 5pm, to Leah Thompson (leah.thompson@admin.ox.ac.uk). Shortlisted candidates will meet with the panel w/c 12 April 2021.
