This strategy sets out government’s ambition to build the research and innovation workforce the UK needs, working in a positive and inclusive culture.

The UK is a global leader in research and development (R&D) with science, research and innovation key to prosperity, health and wellbeing. This strategy claims that people are at the heart of R&D and it is vital that the UK attract, develop, and retain enough people within the research and innovation system to build on the UK's existing strengths and to meet future challenges.

This strategy sets out how the UK government aims to develop the research workforce, aiming to make careers in research and innovation open to people from all backgrounds, working within environments that nurture and get the best out of them.
