Oxford hosted the European Space Agency's inaugural FDL, bringing AI and earth observation researchers together to address complex challenges.
Over an 8 week period, an intensive research format enabled the prototyping of a tool capable of identifying temporary settlements for UNICEF, and a prediction tool for forecasting future floods.
UNICEF is now planning to deploy the tool to target aid for communities most at need.
On Jan 22nd, the Industrial Research Partnerships team hosted a one-day workshop at Rhodes House to decide the focus of the up-coming FDL programme in the summer of 2019.
