Human-Machine Collaboration Programme: Oxford Research Pillar

This international collaboration is developing in four pillar activities. The Oxford Research Pillar is led by four academics from the Oxford Robotics Institute (Engineering Science) and Computer Science as well as via the Centre for Doctoral Training in Autonomous and Intelligent Machines and Systems. Profs Hawes, Posner, Trigoni and Jirotka recently summarised the first year progress in their eight different projects (test beds) focusing on human-machine collaboration and spanning research areas such as autonomy for service robots; autonomy for logistics; human-robot shared autonomy; and autonomy for blue light emergency services, work-plus-robot workplace, autonomous machines and systems as well as responsible technology and responsible robotics. Amazon Web Services provided a generous gift (£7M) to pump prime the programme. This has enabled 9 out of the 10 PDRAs and 16 out of the 25 doctoral students (fully funded ‘Lighthouse’ graduate scholarships) to be funded already at the 1st year milestone of the programme (2020-2023).
