Professor Charlotte Deane

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has appointed Professor Charlotte Deane as Deputy Executive Chair.

Professor Deane joins EPSRC on secondment from the University of Oxford where she is currently Professor of Structural Bioinformatics and Head of Department in the Department of Statistics. She is also Deputy Head of MPLS Division. She joins Neil Viner as fellow Deputy Executive Chair at EPSRC.

EPSRC Executive Chair Professor Lynn Gladden said: “It’s great to have Charlotte working with us at EPSRC. She brings to the role both an internationally-leading reputation in the field of mathematics and statistics and its applications, and an interest in multi-disciplinary research. An important part of the Deputy Executive Chair role will be to work with our community to identify research opportunities both within the existing EPSRC portfolio and across UKRI.”

Professor Deane said: “I am really excited to be joining EPSRC at such an important time. I am looking forward to the opportunity to meet and learn from colleagues from across the UK and to help build the best possible environment for our research.”

Professor Deane leads the Oxford Protein Informatics Group, which works on diverse problems across protein structure, interaction networks and small molecule drug discovery; combining theoretical and empirical analysis. She collaborates with experimentalists in academia and industry in experiment design to leverage the power of computation for biological insight. Her work focusses on the development of novel algorithms, tools and databases that are openly available to the community.
