Halliday and balbus elected foreign associates of national academy of sciences

MPLS Head of Division Professor Alex Halliday has been elected as a foreign associate of the US National Academy of Sciences in recognition of his many important contributions to geochemistry.

Professor Steven Balbus, Savilian Professor of Astronomy and Head of Astrophysics at Oxford, has also been elected as a foreign associate.

NAS has announced the election of 84 new members and 21 foreign associates from 15 countries in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.

Those elected bring the total number of active members to 2,250 and the total number of foreign associates to 452. Foreign associates are nonvoting members of the Academy, with citizenship outside the United States.
