The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Nucleus Awards Stage 1 call is open for applications, offering up to £100,000 to support public engagement with STFC programme area science. Deadline 4pm Thursday 2 November.
Not to be confused with the 'Spark Awards', this scheme is intended to help build engagement networks and deliver national programmes of engagement.
Through the scheme STFC wants to support high quality public engagement activities that highlight and demonstrate the excitement of its science and technology. The scheme also aims to create a network of highly-skilled practitioners of public engagement with STFC science who inspire and involve colleagues, students and the public in their activities.
Anyone interested will find reading the STFC Public Engagement Strategy helpful.
Applicants may choose which audiences to engage with and the methods of engagement. However, applications that propose engagement with audiences considered to have a low 'science capital' are encouraged. In addition, applications that highlight the social, ethical, and economic benefits of research are welcomed.
Before submitting your application you are encouraged to contact the STFC Public Engagement Team to discuss your ideas.
