There is a range of training available for graduate students, all designed to support you in successfully completing your doctorate, develop your skills so you can become an independent researcher, or pursue a career in other fields.

You will have lots of opportunities to develop skills and expertise in your everyday work in your research group and department. The MPLS divisional programme aims to complement these. There is also a range of interdisciplinary courses available from MPLS departments.

The DPhil is a period of professional research training during which you will develop advanced specialist skills and knowledge, as well as broader transferable skills to equip you for a range of careers. Doctoral training in the departments is designed to support this principle, and to ensure that you acquire the knowledge and skills you need at each stage of your DPhil.

Researcher Training and Development Opportunities 2016-17

The Divisional Graduate Course Programme supports and complements departmental training. You can download a copy of the Researcher Training and Development Opportunities brochure here which outlines the courses available to you for the year 2016-17. The courses have been organised into a framework of phases and categories which are designed to guide you through the broad periods of your DPhil, and support you in deciding which skills you may want to develop. There are also many training opportunities available from other training providers in the University.
