The Aptian–Albian interval of the mid-Cretaceous, coinciding with the early opening of the South Atlantic, was marked by short-lived perturbations in the global carbon cycle, including Oceanic Anoxic Events (OAEs) such as 113/Jacob, Kilian, Paquier/Urbino, and Leenhardt. These events promoted widespread anoxia, enhancing organic matter preservation and contributing to the formation of petroleum source rocks in Brazilian sedimentary basins. Their geochemical and stratigraphic signatures are key indicators of both global environmental change and hydrocarbon potential. DSDP Site 511 on the Falkland Plateau provides a rare, continuous high-latitude stratigraphic archive, ideal for reconstructing mid-Cretaceous paleoceanographic conditions. This study applies high-resolution cyclostratigraphy to refine Aptian–Albian chronostratigraphy, improving global correlations and supporting the development of a more standardized stratigraphic framework for Brazilian basins.
