Women's networks and resources

  • MPLS Women's Network is a group of female academics and researchers from across the division. The Network provides opportunities for participants to make connections with others and discuss important issues in a supportive space. To be added to the Network's email list, please contact diversity@mpls.ox.ac.uk.
  • OxFEST (Oxford Females in Engineering, Science, and Technology) is a well-established society promoting and supporting women in science, engineering and technology. OxFEST aims to raise awareness of current issues facing female scientists, provide a support network and networking opportunities for female scientists, increase the visibility of female scientists within the University and associated Institutes, and provide information and resources, which may aid females in pursuing their careers.
  • Oxford Women's Network (OWN) is a group committed to enhancing the quality of life of women in the collegiate University. OWN is designed to connect female faculty, staff and students, serve as a clearing-house for services and information (conferences, training courses, etc) and serve as a forum for networking and discussion of issues affecting women in the University.
  • The Oxford Women in Physics Society promotes career development of women in physics while providing a welcoming support network; and aims to enhance the experience of women working in the department through increased interaction with peers, mentors, and role models.
  • Women in Engineering Oxford is a women’s networking group in the Department of Engineering, which organises talks, social events and other networking activities (for all members of the department).
  • The Oxford Women in Computer Science Society (OxWoCS) aims to support and promote women in computer science. The society exists for all women in computer science, be they students, faculty, or staff. OxWoCS runs a number of academic, social, and career events throughout the year, including weekly coffee meetings, talks by distinguished female speakers, and industry sponsored events. The society provides networking opportunities and a support network comprising role models, mentors, and peers.
  • WomCam (or Women's Campaign) is a discussion and action forum from the Oxford University Student Union which welcomes graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Springboard – Women’s Development Programme is an award-winning personal and professional development programme, created specifically to enable women to achieve their full potential both at work and in their personal lives.
  • Ad Feminam is a mentoring scheme to encourage women to pursue academic and administrative leadership positions.

DIVERSITY AND SUPPORT NETWORKS

  • BME (Black Minority Ethnic) Staff Network is open to all Oxford University staff that identify as BME.  The Network has an email list that acts as a confidential discussion forum, and also holds various meetings throughout the year, both social and work-related. 
  • Race Equality Newsletter is a mailing list for people who have an interest in race equality at Oxford to receive a fortnightly newsletter with a roundup of news and events from across the University and higher education
  • Campaign for Racial Awareness and Equality (CRAE) is one of Oxford University Student Union's permanent campaigns to create a more just and inclusive student experience at the University through action and engagements with racial diversity and difference.
  • Oxford University LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Trans) Staff Network is for all LGBT Oxford University staff, academic and non-academic (including Oxford University Press and the colleges). Post-graduate students are also welcome to join. The group has an email list that acts as a confidential discussion forum, and also holds various meetings throughout the year, both social and work-related. 
  • LGBTQsoc aims to provide a safe space for all members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer community and is focused on providing welfare and social events for students. 
  • LGBTQ Campaign is the autonomous campaign within the Oxford University Student Union that works in the interests of Oxford’s LGBTQ students. They hold speaker events on a range of topics, organise focus groups, and run campaigns on matters of relevance to all LGBTQ individuals. They also hold Open Meetings every fortnight to informally discuss anything members want.   • Oxford Students' Disability Community is a group of interested students who represent the needs and aspirations of students with disabilities within the University.  Their mission is to provide a student-run space for individuals with disabilities and their allies to work towards greater accessibility and access to all aspects of University life.
  • Mind Your Head Campaign through the Oxford University Student Union aims to increase awareness of mental health issues among students and to reduce the stigma and misconceptions surrounding mental illness. They work to empower students to look after their mental wellbeing, to encourage them to seek help when needed, and to look out for others in need of support.
  • Harassment Advisory Service and Harassment Advisors’ Network provides detailed information on the University's harassment policies and procedures, sources of advice, and harassment training, and a network of approximately 300 harassment advisers within the University, with two (one of either sex) appointed within each department and faculty. 
  • Oxford University's Newcomers Club is an organization, run by volunteers, whose aim is to help the newly-arrived wives, husbands or partners of visiting scholars, of graduate students and of newly appointed academic members of the University to settle in and to give them the opportunity to meet people in Oxford.
  • International Students’ Campaign is a student-run organisation committed to representing and improving the welfare of the over 6,500 international students from 139 different countries at Oxford. 

Researcher-specific resources

  • Support for Researchers provides a huge range of support within The University of Oxford for research staff, from help finding funding, to careers advice, to guidance for new principal investigators.
  • Research Support (Research Services and Research Accounts) works in partnership with colleagues in the academic Divisions, departments, research facilitators, Isis Innovation and the University Administration and Services (UAS) to provide comprehensive support to researchers across the research life cycle.
  • Oxford Research Staff Society (OxRSS) is a collective voice for researchers employed by the University of Oxford. The group also organises social and professional networking activities across departments and divisions.

UNIVERSITY GROUPS AND TRAINING

  • The Careers Service provides career advice and services (eg CV and cover letter review, job listings, careers fairs, training and so on) for students and researchers.
  • Oxford Learning Institute provides voluntary courses for university and college staff; coverage includes teaching and learning, leadership and management, and personal development, as well as programmes for women and newcomers.
  • Navigator Development Programme for Men enables men to identify the clear and practical steps they want to take in their lives, and then develop the skills and determination to do something about them.
  • Health and welfare resources provides information and services  for students regarding health, disability, counselling, student-led support, student parents, care leavers.
  • Staff Benefits shows a range of benefits available to staff.
