MPLS ED&I Action Plan
The following document outlines the current Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Action Plan for the MPLS Division from 2021-2023. The plan was composed in 2020 by the MPLS ED&I Steering Group and MPLS ED&I Fellows, along with the MPLS ED&I Team, and then formally reviewed and approved by the Steering Group. This document should be seen as a starting point for improving ED&I across the Division and is a live document that will continually be updated with new actions, as well as reporting against current actions.
The work has been broadly split across Race Equity, Mental Health & Wellbeing, Gender Equity, LGBTQ+, and Disability. The current divisional priorities are Race Equity and Mental Health & Wellbeing, following feedback from staff and students and taking into consideration priorities in the sector and beyond, but with increased activity across all ED&I. Different Working Groups (consisting of ED&I Steering Group members, ED&I Fellows and volunteers) are working together to tackle each of these areas. Any cross-cutting and intersectional issues or areas have been collated to ensure a considered divisional approach. Some actions have been removed from the final Action Plan on the grounds of prioritisation and to restrict this plan to achievable actions. However, this is a living document which we continue to update.
We are also aware of some similar activity among central teams such as the Equality & Diversity Unit, and People and Organisational Development, and therefore confirm that this work is specifically for MPLS departments. We are ensuring that appropriate information exchange is happening between the Division and central teams so that we are joined up as much as possible with other initiatives and activity.
How the plan works
The current actions have been split into short (immediate actions), medium (within the next academic year) and long term (beyond this academic year), in particular identifying those that we can and should progress immediately. These actions are now being worked on by our Working Groups in line with proposed timescales. Please note, the “comments” column helps to direct the work going forwards.
Click on the tiles below (listed in alphabetical order) to view the actions within each section.
