Racial equity and justice continue to be a priority focus for MPLS, particularly as we work to implement the University’s Race Equality Strategy developed by the Race Equality Task Force, and progress divisional actions. A number of our departments also have race equality action plans to address local needs. Here, we want to easily signpost to all the different networks, training sessions and various resources that are available to staff and students.

There is a lot of activity happening across the University and MPLS Division for Black History Month 2023. Here we have summarised events and opportunities to join throughout the month and beyond, as well as links to useful networks and resources. 

September is East and Southeast Asian Heritage Month in the UK. Daisy J. Hung, Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in MPLS, reflects on the importance of raising awareness and recognition for ESEA communities in the UK.

The BIPOC STEM Network is an inclusive group of postgraduates, academic, research and administrative/ support staff who identify as BIPOC or BAME, within the STEM departments, as well as allies. It was convened by four DPhil students with support from the MPLS Division. 

There are a number of networks, groups and support available to staff and students and those interested in being allies. Here you can find information from across the University, as well as in MPLS. 

There is a lot of information and resources relating to race equity and support that are available across the University and beyond. We have summarised some of the highlights here. 

In MPLS we run a number of workshops, several of which focus on race equity, inclusivity and anti-racist and intersctional allyship. Some of our other sessions will be relevant too.
