OPEN host a range of workshops and talks to provide practical guidance to researchers seeking to bridge the divide between research and policy.
Engaging with policymakers is essential for ensuring that research findings are taken into account when making policy decisions.
Whilst this might seem like a daunting task, the Oxford Policy Engagement Network (OPEN) is here to provide practical learning opportunities to help you develop your knowledge, skills and confidence to collaborate effectively with policy-makers, and bridge the gap between their respective areas of expertise.
Researchers and professional services staff from all areas of the University are welcome to take part in OPEN's activities.

This event will showcase how a nuanced understanding of local political conditions can pave the way for developmentally impactful and politically viable policy recommendations.
Workshop: Introduction to policy engagement for music and sound researchers
6 March, 10:00am-12:00pm - Faculty of Music
This workshop will explain the fundamental skills needed for researchers across the university working on music and sound from any disciplinary background to broker relationships with the policy world, demonstrate the value this work has for policy-making, and provide advice on how to map your key stakeholders, to build engagement from your research, and craft outputs of relevance to policymakers.
Workshop: Getting started in policy engagement

This introductory session will explain different methods of engagement and why it benefits researchers and policymakers alike. You'll get tips for getting started, such as understanding how the policymaking process works, who the key players are in the policy environment, and how to build engagement into your research, and to get to know some tools to help with that.
