SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES
Dr. Anna Jungbluth
Research Fellow at European Space Agency
Anna Jungbluth is a research fellow at the European Space Agency (ESA). She is based in the ESA Climate Office, and works on machine learning applications for earth observation and climate research. Before her postdoc, she obtained her PhD in Physics at the University of Oxford, researching renewable energies. Throughout her PhD, Anna developed an interest in machine learning for scientific applications, which led her to joining the Frontier Development Lab as a researcher in 2019. She returned to the program the following years, and helped lead various heliophysics and earth observation projects. Anna is passionate about increasing diversity in STEM and helping to empower the next generation of interdisciplinary scientists.
Dr. Katherine Collett
Developing start-ups for Net-Zero
Associate, DeepScience Ventures
Katherine is an Associate in Climate at Deep Science Ventures - an outcome-centric venture creator based in London. She has spent her career to date working at the interface of research and industry on emerging technologies for net-zero emissions. During her time as a Senior Researcher at the University of Oxford, Katherine worked for the Energy and Power Group and the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment on topics such as vehicle-to-grid, electricity distribution networks, green hydrogen, decarbonising transport in sub-Saharan Africa, bio-based sources of carbon, alternative proteins, and nature-based greenhouse gas removal. Katherine holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford on high-efficiency solar photovoltaics.
Dr. Roxana Shafiee
Energy and Climate Change Policy Researcher, Harvard
DPhil Environmental Research, Dept of Earth Sciences
Roxana Shafiee is an interdisciplinary scientist and researcher examining whether climate change, environment, and energy policies are backed by the best available science and technology research. Roxana holds a PhD in Environmental Research from the University of Oxford and was an Environment, Climate Change and Energy Researcher at the Scottish Parliament following her doctoral research. In 2022, Roxana was awarded the Stanback Postdoctoral Fellowship in Global Environmental Science at the California Institute of Technology and now continues her research as an Environmental Fellow at the Harvard University Center for the Environment in the Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability.
