Workshop: Communicating evidence to policy makers - what works best?

In-person, Sophia Sheppard Room, Magdalen College, Oxford

12:30-15:00 BST, 26 June 2024

Scientific evidence and information can be communicated to policy makers through many different means - from briefing papers to social media - but which of these are most effective in getting their attention? And what features and formats make an information source most useful, from a policy making perspective? Join Dr Caroline Wood and OPEN Leader Dr Veerle Brans to learn more about this, as well as practical resources within the University, and learn how to identify the policy stakeholders relevant to your own research.

Lunch & Learn with Dr Lorna Daniels, Senior Policy Advisor, Government Office for Science

In-person, Summer Common Room, Magdalen College, Oxford

12:30-14:00 BST, 3 July 2024

Dr Lorna Daniels is a Senior Policy Advisor at the Government Office for Science (GO-Science) advising on R&D strategy and capabilities across Government. In this talk, also convened by OPEN Leader Dr Veerle Brans, she will provide an overview of the work of the Government Office for Science to support evidence-based policymaking across the UK Government. She will touch upon how researchers can use their skills to advise on policy or move into policy-focused roles. Prior to joining GO-Science, Lorna was a Novo Nordisk Post-Doctoral Research Fellow investigating cardiometabolic disease in diabetes.
