The Institute of Physics (IOP) offers up to £4,000 to run physics-based activities that support the IOP Limit Less campaign and improve people’s relationship with physics in their family or community groups.

The Institute of Physics Public Engagement Grant scheme is now open for funding applications to run physics-based activities that support the IOP Limit Less campaign (their campaign to support young people to change the world and fulfil their potential by doing physics), and improve people’s relationship with physics in their family or community groups.

Seed Fund

This they are introducing a Seed Fund, to bring together non-physicist and physicist participants and develop a full grant application.

Applications can be for up to £500.

Deadline for Seed Fund applications is 5pm (UK time) 31 March 2025.

Main Fund

IoP will be accepting applications on a rolling basis from now until the 1 September and have two decision making points during throughout the year, 5 May and 1 September (up to 5pm UK time).

The minimum grant available is £500, the maximum is £4,000.

Anyone can apply, including individuals and groups, you don't need to be a member of the IOP, but there must be a physicist involved.

The grant looks to prioritise projects that reach families with young people under the age of 16 who identify with one or more of the following groups currently underrepresented in the physics community:

  • Girls and young women
  • Disabled young people
  • LGBT+ young people
  • Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Black Caribbean young people

The team administering the fund is happy to offer support via email or via a 15 minute video call prior to submission.

“The funding has meant that we have been able to extend our reach to a wider audience and this has created deeper impact in our community. It has fostered an interest in Physics as an integral foundation of our everyday existence… The project has been a great experience, and now we cannot stop, and we are organising similar events about our community” – ARC and You, awardees in 2023 for ‘Physics in Climate Change’
