Explore the ethics behind research practice. This interactive workshop examines authorship, publication, and peer review through real-world dilemmas. Develop practical strategies for integrity, respectful dialogue, and sound decision-making. Completion of the online module is required before attending.

COURSE DETAILS

In this workshop, we will take a hands-on approach to professional ethics, exploring the virtues and norms associated with good research practice, how to resolve moral dilemmas in practice and develop the interpersonal skills needed to discuss ethically challenging situations professionally and with integrity.
In particular we will look at ethical dilemmas in the areas of authorship, publication and peer review. We will base our discussions around The Dilemma Game, developed by the Erasmus University Rotterdam; you will also be welcome to bring your own situations to discuss if you wish. All cases will be discussed in complete confidentiality.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session participants will be able to:
  • Identify potential issues and identify common problems in managing the authorship. publication and peer review process.
  • Understnd the ethical framework for research integrity, especially as it applies to publication.
  • Discuss ethical dilemmas in a constructive and respectful way with others, striving toward finding common ground and an ethical solutions to the problem.
