The programme will fund six early-career faculty members from academic institutions in India or Africa to undertake three-year fellowships at the University of Oxford, providing comprehensive training in AI and technical areas, alongside valuable professional development opportunities.
Fellows will work remotely during years one and three, while spending the second year in residence at Oxford being hosted in MPLS departments and affiliated with one of four Oxford colleges: Somerville, Reuben, Linacre, or Mansfield.
The programme targets researchers whose work applies AI to accelerate progress in one of three priority areas: climate change, environment, and biodiversity; food and water security; or STEM applications in biomedical research.
The first stage of applications opens today and closes on 28 April 2025. Applicants should submit a CV (a maximum seven pages), a brief research proposal explaining the AI application and potential impact, and the contact details for two academic referees and their Head of Department. Shortlisted candidates will proceed to Stage 2, which opens on 20 May and closes on 3 June.
Applicants must be citizens and residents of countries in Africa or India, currently employed at a university or academic institute in either region, and in the first six years of their faculty appointment.
Webinars are being held on 3 April and 14 April which will provide more details about the programme, and interested candidates are encouraged to register to learn more about the opportunity.
