LGBT+ History Month 2026
February is LGBT+ History Month, a chance to celebrate the rich and diverse history of LGBT+ people and to raise awareness so that LGBT+ people feel safe, seen and supported.
The theme for this year is Science and Innovation, aiming to highlight the contributions and lives of LGBT+ people in science, historically and today. Explore five LGBT+ historical figures in line with the theme, find out more about the month itself, and get involved on the LGBT+ History Month website.

Register for the University of Oxford's LGBT+ History Month event: “What about Queer?”
Date: Wednesday 18 February 2026, 4pm – 6:30pm
Location: Oxford Martin School Lecture Theatre
Info: This panel discussion will focus on the evolving meanings of the word “queer”, including its historical usage, political reclamation, and contemporary significance within academic and social contexts. We are pleased to have Dr Mori Reithmayr (they/them) and Dr Tamsin Blaxter (she/her) joining us for the panel. Come to join the discussion, stay for free drinks! This is a public event, feel free to pass on to colleagues and friends.

Join the Physics LGBT+ Society for an Oxford Physics Out Thinkers event
Date: Wednesday 25 February 2026, 11am – 1pm
Location: Beecroft Seminar Room and Foyer
Info: Oxford Physics is hosting a Physics Out Thinkers event, which will to highlight the research that three LGBT+ people in the department do. Each speaker will have 15 minutes, followed by coffee, cake, and sandwiches. Please email Jake Taylor to register.

Request a Progress Flag lanyard and commit to being an Ally. The Progress Pride Flag celebrates the full diversity of the LGBTQ+ community and calls for a more inclusive society. Wearing a lanyard, means you commit to:
- Promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion
- Being an active support to all LGBTQ+ staff and students
- Never being a bystander to harassment, homophobia, biphobia or transphobia
