The Infrastructure Transitions Research Consortium (ITRC), led by the University of Oxford, is now in the second phase of EPSRC Programme Grant funding. During this time, the consortium has developed NISMOD-LP, the National Infrastructure System Model for Long-term Planning, integrating engineering-based models of demand and capacity for infrastructure services in the energy, transport, water, waste water, and solid waste sectors.

Prof Hall proposes a secondment to the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) to enable the uptake and use of NISMOD-LP for the UK’s first National Infrastructure Assessment, to be published in 2018. The secondee will work intensively with NIC officials using NISMOD-LP to test the NIC’s options for strategic infrastructure policies and investments. It is expected that this secondment will yield a high profile impact case study for EPSRC which is also anticipated to be one of the REF case studies for the School of Geography and the Environment.
