OPEN Peer Mentoring Scheme, deadline 16 Dec
OPEN are seeking expressions of interest from researchers interested in taking part in their peer mentoring scheme, which connects researchers with policy professionals for mutual mentorship and to bridge the gap between academic research and public policy.
The Oxford Policy Engagement Network (OPEN) Peer Mentoring Scheme is a collaborative initiative by the University of Oxford's Policy Engagement Team, the UK Civil Service Policy Profession Unit, and the Oxford Climate Research Network (OCRN). It aims to bridge the gap between academic research and public policy by pairing researchers with policy professionals for mutual mentorship.
Since its inception in 2021, the scheme has successfully connected over 120 researchers and policy professionals, fostering meaningful collaborations and enhancing the integration of research evidence into public policy.
Objectives:
- Deepen Understanding: Enhance participants' insights into how research can inform policymaking and develop relevant skills to facilitate this process.
- Expand Networks: Broaden and deepen academic and policy-related connections.
- Strengthen Leadership: Foster leadership capabilities in academic-policy engagement.
Structure:
Each cohort comprises 15 researchers from the University of Oxford and 15 policy professionals at similar career stages. Over six months, participants engage in peer mentoring, alternating roles as mentor and mentee. This reciprocal relationship provides a platform for sharing experiences, offering feedback, and understanding the distinct cultures and values of academia and policy environments.
