A dynamic and interactive 2 day in-person event aimed at giving researchers a working knowledge of critical business issues that impact commercial organisations. It’s designed to provide them with a set of tools and skills to help them be immediately more effective working in, and with, industry.

COURSE DETAILS

In this fast-paced practical programme participants will gain know-how that lets them engage with industry with more confidence by using the “language of business”.

They’ll gain skills that are valuable whether they plan to pursue a career in industry or collaborate with industry as part of a career in academic research. Throughout the programme they will work on activities and exercises with their peers, explore key concepts independently and apply new skills and tools to their current situation.

The programme is designed to be highly relevant to their area of research while fitting with their busy schedule and giving them the opportunity to work in groups and network with their peers.

Connecting with Industry is designed to give researchers the confidence, tools and skills to help them more effectively engage with and work with industry. Using case studies the instructors will highlight the importance of the researchers' expertise to the commercial world and show practical ways and examples of how they can engage with companies. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Connecting with Industry is a dynamic programme that provides you with tools and frameworks, allows you to practice what you learn with your peers and encourages you to apply the new skills to your personal situation. Over the two days you will:

    • Explore challenges associated with connecting & communicating with industry.
    • Learn & apply strategies for overcoming these challenges. .
    • Identify companies or organisations likely to value your skills knowledge & expertise.
    • Learn & apply frameworks for understanding industry and their challenges.
    • Learn & apply techniques for discovering and creating opportunities with businesses.
    • Increase your fluency in the “language of business”.
    • Translate your expertise into impactful industry-centric communication.
    • Learn a powerful method for ensuring your communication is always highly relevant.
    • Identify strategies for defining and strengthening your personal brand.
    • Create a strategic networking plan designed to help you achieve your next-step career goals.

    The programme will take place at Begbroke Science Park.

    The programme runs for 2 days, starting at 9:30 and finishing at 4:30pm, with a 45-minute break for lunch, with multiple breaks throughout the day.

    Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
