Professor Stuart Robinson

Incoming Associate Head (Taught Degrees)

Stuart Robinson is Professor of Sedimentology and Stratigraphy, whose research focuses on reconstructing climatic and environmental change in Earth history from the geological record. He has been a faculty member in the Department of Earth Sciences since 2013, initially as an Non-Tutorial Fellow at St Cross and, since 2016, as a Tutorial Fellow at St Anne’s. Stuart has taught extensively at undergraduate and postgraduate level and, since 2022, has been Associate Head of Department with responsibility for teaching. He was closely involved with the development of the Earth Science’s college blind admissions process, efforts to diversify the student body, and initiatives to coordinate and update college and departmental teaching.

Stuart is looking forward to working with colleagues across the Division to help meet strategic priorities, including addressing awarding gaps, the development of PGT courses, competency standards and AI policies. He is keen to facilitate discussions as to how new initiatives pertaining to assessments, teaching delivery, AI training, and admissions can be nurtured and developed, to allow MPLS to continue providing opportunities for all and a world-class education that equips graduates with the skills needed for their futures.

Stuart will start in role on 1 September 2026.
