Dr Holly Reeve was appointed the MPLS BSA Media Fellow and was given the opportunity to work at The Mirror for two weeks in July. For one day she took over the MPLS Twitter account to share her experience. She'll be writing her experiences of the whole opportunity for us to share soon, but for now, here's a taster of how she got on...

Also apologies that none of the lovely pictures show up - our website doesn't fully support embedded tweets... if you'd rather read this in Twitter, click here.

Good morning!! @HAReeve here 😊
I’ve traded in research @OxfordChemistry for journalism for a couple of weeks for a @BritSciAssoc Media Fellowship @DailyMirror @MirrorTech - come and see what it’s like!

First job every day: ‘read the internet’! 😬🤦‍♀️
Really enjoying @EurekAlert - great place to find the latest research with excellent press releases from Universities and science facilities 👍👏 pic.twitter.com/sYWy89Pg1I

First article for the day is coming along, just the fun game of finding 'appropriate' pictures in the photo stocks :)
Huge amounts to chose from, but type in baby, for example, and you mostly get Trump baby ballon pictures this week!

This one’s for @a_n_s - the tea and coffee facilities!
Happy to report a very well stocked milk fridge and an interesting freezing cold / boiling hot tap - don’t confuse them 😁😂 pic.twitter.com/Sy1s22p4jJ

And it’s live! 2 hours in. Already working on the next one. #mediafellows2018 @BritSciAssoc @HAReeve
Feeling productive, although plenty of other people around me are probably on article 4 or 5 😬 https://t.co/IkFDiRjyXH

— MPLSOxford (@mplsoxford) July 18, 2018

Off for a lunch break but exciting things to come when I get back.
A podcast chat with the science team here @MirrorTech goes live.
As well as a feature I’ve been working on inspired by a chat with some oxford researchers!!

— MPLSOxford (@mplsoxford) July 18, 2018

The @MirrorTech team is happy - this article has shot to the top of the Mirror stories for today! Nice one @shivalibest :) https://t.co/ndlcc132bj

— MPLSOxford (@mplsoxford) July 18, 2018

PODCAST!
I had a chat with the @MirrorTech science team about all things #science #scientists #sciencecommunication #chemistry and to reflect on what I've leant during my @BritSciAssoc Media Fellowship
We discuss #biotech and the @HydRegen_Oxford @OxfordChemistry too https://t.co/RZCgcit8eN

— Holly Reeve (@HAReeve) July 18, 2018

What are my take home messages from working @MirrorTech with @jparsons989 and @shivalibest?
Find out by listening to our podcast chat!
- press releases are a great way to get your research into the media and to 'direct' the story
- chemistry is less 'exciting' than physics 😬 https://t.co/dfnOGhrbTt

— MPLSOxford (@mplsoxford) July 18, 2018

Having a great time @MirrorTech and learning lots. Thanks to @mplsoxford and @BritSciAssoc for making it possible. Hear all about it in this podcast!

— Holly Reeve (@HAReeve) July 18, 2018

So, inspired by a conversation with @StuartWigby @UniofOxford I set about writing an article about the similarities and differences between watching #loveisland and being a #scientist!

My next article for the day is out - been a busy day of reading, writing and learning all about how the stats work, which articles do well, immediate hits vs slow burns#mediafellows2018 https://t.co/wcPu1n1WgE

Thought we'd take a look @layallivs latest article. Layal is a PhD student @UniofOxford and on her @BritSciAssoc #mediafellows2018 placement @guardian - you might recognise her from a recent @OxfordSparks #twittertakeover! https://t.co/v1TAb8A2dn

— MPLSOxford (@mplsoxford) July 18, 2018

Winding down for the day after some last minute excitement. In fact we are off for team drinks in Canary Wharf.
Thanks for the #takeover day - its been a busy one. 3 articles (nearly 4) and a podcast.
Looking forward to been back @OxfordChemistry next week!
