Learn how to enhance your writing and editing with skills from storytelling.
COURSE DETAILS
Discover what makes stories so powerful and learn how to craft your own using three key storytelling elements: character, plot and description.
Apply these skills to improving your written work, applicable for articles, essays, theses, blog posts and more. Learn how to best engage different audiences.
Analyse examples of written work and hone your editorial eye. Learn how to give and receive positive and supportive feedback, as well as criticism, to improve your work.
Learning Outcomes
The aim of the course is to:
- Increase understanding of the essential elements of a great story and how to apply them to your written work.
- Increase understanding of how to structure, write and edit rigorous and engaging pieces of work.
- Boost your confidence and creativity in writing, as well as your self-esteem and resilience, to support you in your academic career.

DPhil students and research staff.

Robert Holtom is a professional storyteller and consultant who has worked with a range of organisations to help them refine and hone their stories for a variety of audiences.
