The John Maddox Prize, presented by Standing up for Science in partnership with Nature, celebrates researchers who have gone above and beyond to speak out for science and evidence-based policy, even in the face of hostility or challenge. It recognises those who have shifted public discourse, influenced policy, and promoted the role of sound evidence in society.
Two awards are offered:
-
The Maddox Prize (for researchers more than 15 years post-first degree)
-
The Early Career Award (for researchers within 15 years of their first degree)
The prize is open to researchers globally, and nominations or self-applications are encouraged from anyone whose work has successfully advanced public discussion, particularly on complex, contentious, or misunderstood issues.
Winners receive:
• €5,000
• Travel and accommodation to attend the award ceremony in London
• Coverage on Nature.com and profiling on the Nature Awards site
The organisers are especially keen to hear from individuals working at the interface of research, public engagement, and policy influence, and from underrepresented voices in science communication.
Deadline: 30 April 2025, 23:59 (UK time)
