STFC Nucleus Awards, deadline 20 March 2025
STFC offers £10,000 to £100,000 to support high quality programmes of public engagement that inspire and involve target audiences with stories of STFC science, technology and facilities.
STFC Nucleus grant holders undertake high quality programmes of public engagement up to a period of 36 months that inspire and involve target audiences with stories of STFC science, technology and facilities.
Grant holders may also use Nucleus awards to create and sustain public engagement networks that develop communities of practice.
Proposed engagement programmes must either:
- clearly focus on the remit of the STFC science programme
- clearly and demonstrably align to the science and technology work of STFC’s national and international laboratories and facilities
Applicants can request from £10,000 to £100,000 (they will cover 80% FEC up to £125,000).
Nucleus awards may also be used for activities that are dedicated to developing community networks or capacity building in public engagement.
Applications are welcome that align with their public engagement strategic and their Wonder Initiative, which is about giving under-served communities an equal voice by listening, understanding, and responding to what people want to know about science and technology. STFC is interested in supporting audience driven engagement that works with audiences, particularly those eight to 14 years old and their families and carers, from the 40% most socio-economically deprived areas of the UK.
The assessment areas we will use are:
- vision
- approach
- applicant and team capability to deliver
- resources and cost justification
- ethics and responsible research and innovation (RRI)
- evaluation plan
- dissemination plan
The deadline for applications is 4pm (UK time) 20 March 2025.
