Registration & Contact Information
As a new student you should Register online via Student Self Service. You should ensure that your contact details, including your primary email address, are up to date. If your contact details change during your course, you should update them as soon as possible. Ensure you regularly check your University email account for important information and updates, as this will be used as your primary contact.

For first year DPhil students: what you need to know to make an excellent start
The MPLS Division has created a couple of useful documents to support you and your supervisor in defining the scope of the DPhil project. It is not a formal requirement to use these documents, but you may find them useful in planning your skills development and the work to lead to a successful completion of the DPhil.
- Project Initiation Plan:
The plan can be used as a useful tool to help assist you with working through with your supervisor(s) in establishing the scope and direction of your project.

- Training Needs Analysis (TNA):
A TNA will help you and your supervisor identify the skills you need to complete your studies successfully.

Useful Sources of Information
- University Student Handbook Provides general information and guidance you may need to help you to make the most of the opportunities on offer at the University of Oxford. It also gives you formal notification and explanation of the University’s codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Examination Regulations These contain the 'laws' that govern your course/degree. A new edition is published online annually at the beginning of Michaelmas term.
- Policy and Guidance on Research Degrees These set out the framework the University expects to see underpin the provision of its research degrees at Oxford. They supplement the requirements for research degrees set out in the Examination Regulations.
- Supporting students transition to Oxford Provides a range of supportive documents, resources and links from across the University, departments and colleges, to help you make the most of Oxford.
